The development of a model for the human exposure assessment of pesticide application in farming systems in developing countries starts with the study of the different pathways followed by the pesticides according to the different applications. In the figure is summarized the pesticide flow according to different tasks (i.e. pesticide preparation, application and cleaning); the environmental compartments in which the pesticide is dispersed (i.e. air, plants, water and soil); the protection factors that reduce the level of exposure (i.e. clothing, body protective equipment and respiratory protective equipment); and the human exposure dose (amount of pesticide in contact with the human body).
This research about “Human Exposure Assessment of Pesticide use in Developing Countries” headed by Prof. Dr. Claudia R. Binder and M.Sc. Camilo Lesmes Fabian, belongs to the project “Life Cycle, Human Exposure and Risk Assessment of Pesticide Application on Agricultural Products in Colombia” which is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Stefanie Hellweg from ETH Zürich with the cooperation of different partners from Europe and Colombia.
