Fachgebiet: Geographische Gesellschaft-Umwelt-Forschung
Gefördert durch: European Commission
Förderkennzeichen: ENV4-CT98-5118

Laufzeit: 03/1999 - 02/2001

The project comparatively analysed shortcomings in disaster management practices in Germany and Spain. Research foci were causes of and responses to flood events, as well as disaster management and legislation structures. By means of questionnaires, field surveys and institutional visits, information was gathered on the attitude and response of individuals and organisations with regard to floods. A survey on vulnerability has been carried out and different risk assessment approaches were evaluated. A principal outcome was the design of a conceptual approach for integrated flood risk assessment, which was preliminary applied in Cantabria, Spain. During the two-year Marie Curie Fellowship, European training activities have been attended and the PhD programme of the University of Cantabria has been completed.
