Projektmanagement für Wissenstransfer (75%, bis TV-L E14)

Abteilung: Lehr- und Forschungseinheit für Physische Geographie und Erdsysteminteraktionen
Zeitraum: 01.12.2021 bis 30.11.2024
Bewerbung an: Pongratz, J.

The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich is one of the largest and most renowned universities in Germany. The chair for Geography and Land Use Systems at the Department of Geography carries out fundamental and applied research on the human impact on climate via land use. It will lead, the synthesis, transfer and coordination project for the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) funding line on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). See https://www.fona.de/de/massnahmen/foerdermassnahmen/co2-entnahmemethoden-cdr.php for details.

To limit global warming in line with the Paris Agreement's goals, greenhouse gas neutrality needs to be reached within the next few decades. This will likely require CDR in addition to emissions reductions. Projects in the BMBF program on terrestrial, geological and material-based CDR and a parallel program on marine CDR methods aim to provide a systematic and comprehensive science basis of potentials, implementability, risks and side-effects in the Earth system of various CDR methods and pathways, and will investigate feedbacks with other Sustainable Development Goals. The CDR program aims to enhance the research capacities in Germany for CDR, strengthen the links between research and other stakeholders, and provide an adequate science basis for political decision-making in research- and climate-policy.

In the synthesis, transfer and coordination project the following position is available for three years:

Project manager for knowledge transfer (75%, up to TV-L E14)

The Transfer Manager is the focal contact point for the stakeholders involved in the program, who include, e.g., political decision-makers, practice partners from regional administration and the agricultural sector, and the general public. The Transfer Manager will work closely with the Scientific Coordinator, Program Manager, Public Relations Officer and Graphics Communications Designer.

Specific tasks comprise
- maintaining close contact to all stakeholders to coordinate an efficient dialogue between research and stakeholders across the program's joint projects
- coordination with the transfer work of the marine CDR program
developing and implementing concepts for stakeholder involvement at the program's events
- identifying the program's most relevant results for public dissemination
- coordinating and supporting the development of target-group-specific dissemination material (such as workshops, policy briefs, fact sheets)
coordinating trans-disciplinary trainings for young researchers

The Transfer Manager's position requires
- a MSc or PhD university degree
- experience of several years in the field of knowledge transfer, stakeholder management and policy counseling
- existing relevant stakeholder networks
- knowledge of the political and scientific discourse on climate change and sustainable development.
- excellent German and very good English skills in speech and writing
- capability to work independently and in a team in a structured and goal-oriented way

The Transfer Manager will become a member of a dynamic team around research, coordination and transfer of the CDR synthesis project and many other projects at the chair for Physical Geography and Land Use Systems. Wide opportunities for collaboration exist in the Munich area.
The position is offered for three years starting December 2021 or soon thereafter.
Your work place will be located in central Munich and is easy to reach by public transport. We offer an interesting and responsible position with good opportunities for vocational training and career development.
Payment will be in accordance with TV-L, up to level E14. Handicapped persons with comparable qualifications receive preferential status. We encourage female candidates to apply.

Please send an application outlining your fit for the position (including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, copies of scientific degrees, and the names and contact information of two references) by e-mail (one PDF-attachment with max. 5MB only including all documents) with subject "CDR-Transfer-2021" to climate.jobs@geographie.uni-muenchen.de.
